With the return of peace to the Federation and her neighbors since end of the Dominion War, Federation scientists have had time to return their focus back to the UFP's original mandate of space exploration. With the new knowledge of recent wars and the desire to again search the heavens, the Ronin Class was born.

The Ronin Class was designed to step into the hole left by the retiring Nebula Class. Like the Nebula, it features the ability to switch out a pod, making it is easy for the design to transform from its normal science-heavy design to a destroyer class. This makes it capable of complimenting the Sovereign class vessel in time of war.

The DISCOVERY is the first of the Ronin Class to be commissioned into Starfleet. The vessel was conceived and constructed in Utopia Planetia, Mars in early 2382. Like the crews of the original wooden vessels and all that followed, the crew and Captain have seen the fires of war, felt the warmth of friendship and peace, the wonder of exploration, and experienced the depths of loss. They are, by all aspects, a family, with a proud history and a bright future. What awaits the crew is unknown. What awaits the ship, is another rendevous with history. 

The USS Discovery is commanded by Captain Tyr Waltas. The vessel has been tested in battle, and has passed all its shakedown challenges with flying colors. Waltas and his crew have been given the unique opportunity to "write the book" on this vessel and make a name for both the Discovery and the Ronin Class in the galaxy.
